History
Jackson
& Sons began at the kitchen table and in the garage of the Jackson
home in Dudley North Carolina in April of 1974. The company started with 3 employees and a
lot of faith. That summer Woodard’s
younger brother helped out while he was on break from college. This policy of offering students summer jobs
would prove invaluable to Jackson & Sons, and is a policy that continues
today.
Even with the tough economic times of the mid to late 70’s Jackson & Sons thrived. Soon there were 10 employees, including 2 fulltime office staff, an outside sales person, and a fulltime plumber. Woodard’s sons, Danny, David, and Craig began working in the business anytime they were out of school. In 1982 Danny graduated from East Carolina University and came home to work in the family business. Danny decided it was time to create a service department, and the outstanding customer service Jackson & Sons is famous for was born.

In
1983 David also graduated from ECU and came into the family business to
computerize and automate the accounting departments. Soon after Judy Jackson retired, turning over
all accounting duties to David, and Woodard began training Danny to someday
take his place.
In
the early 1990’s Danny and David saw an opportunity to grow the business
further by concentrating on repairs and replacement sales. They added more service technicians, started
a dedicated preventative maintenance program for their customers, and added
another outside sales consultant. As a
result Jackson & Sons grew dramatically.
The facilities were expanded as well as the staff.
In July of 2002 Woodard Jackson officially retired and handed over full control of all operations to Danny and David Jackson. Lyman Smith, who started in the company working after school and during summer break, was promoted to Vice-president and Sales Manager. Lyman hired a commercial sales consultant and began to pursue the commercial repair and replacement market.
Currently Jackson & Sons employs over 50 co-workers during the peak summer season, and occupies over 22,000 square feet of office, training, warehouse, and sheet metal manufacturing facilities. They have grown into one of the largest and most respected heating and air conditioning companies in North Carolina. In 2007 Jackson & Sons was recognized by INC. Magazine as one of the 5,000 fastest growing companies in the United States.
