2022.09.14 - Mathew, the service representative, was professional and friendly. I accompanied him as he did his analysis and he answered my questions as we proceeded. Sadly, there is a refrigerant leak in the 20 year old heat pump system. Another representative will visit tomorrow to determine a replacement system and to give me me pricing and scheduling information.

I am thrilled with the service that I have received from Jackson & Sons so far. I called on Monday with an issue and they had a technician that day. I was so impressed I signed up for their maintenance plan and had another technician come out today for my first service appointment. The technicians are polite, timely, professional, and thorough. Tomorrow they are sending out a crew to assess my initial problem and work on a resolution. Thank you for your timely attention and professional service people!

On arrival, customer showed video on her phone of noise coming from louvre rattling against frame. Tech added four more rubber pads between each louvre and frame. Tech replaced fan motor and fan blade under full warranty. Tech installed rubber pads between wood frame of foundation wall and sheet metal supply. Customer also reported highly disliking ecobee thermostat and wanting a more user friendly thermostat. Tech installed and tested original thermostat. Left ecobee on site. Customer wants to know if changing to flex duct through foundation would make a difference in vibration. Customer also asked if a Trane unit would be quieter. Tech advised customer to give current changes with new blade, motor, and isolation pads a few nights to see if it is still intolerable to him and call back if is still not satisfied. Tech spoke to Jerry about issues. Office may need install supervisor and senior tech to assess if challenge is not resolved.

Upon inspection, tech found approximately 4-5 places where trunk line insulation was damaged/missing. Tech quoted $172.12 to repair/replace damaged insulation on trunk line. Customer approved. Customer also approved investing in MPA for 1 system. Note: Tech informed customer that moisture issue in crawlspace likely has other contributing factors aside from the damaged/missing insulation that was repaired/replaced today. The water table is very high and could be causing ground water seepage into crawlspace in the summer. Tech recommended checking moisture levels during summer ESA service and determining if installation of a dehumidifier is advisable. Tech collected $304.37 by credit card for house call/diagnostic fee, repairs to duct system and first month payment of MPA.

Lane Mcquauatt 775-378-4958 is Operations Manager. He reported blank thermostat. Tech found 30 amp fuse blown inside air handler disconnect. Uploaded pictures of data tag, air handler, fuse and disconnect. Colby let tech know that upsized fuses are on order. As soon as they arrive, we can return to get system running.

Tech returned and replaced blower motor, blower wheel, and 35/5uf dual run capacitor. Tech tested system in each mode without challenges. Collected for repairs. Tech confirmed blower delay relay has slight discoloration and heat strip contactor is buzzing, but tech tested both components around 5 times. They are operational. Tech quoted $594.14 including tax to replace heat strip contactor and blower delay relay just in case. Customer wants to hold off for now.

New home inspection. Tech tested heating and cooling operation. Both tanks of propane are empty. Tech was only able to check heat sequence in gas furnace. Once gas is filled heating should work properly. System is cooling properly given Ambien of 55 outside. No issues found

Tech found system locked out on a two flash on board. Text cycled power and system will immediately give out a to flash. Tech began to check coil sensors and found coil temp sensors for both circuit A and B Are reading way out of range. Tech was still able to get circuit one and two to come on. Tech also adjusted timer for second stage compressor. Quoted 844 Plus tax to replace both coil sensors. Customer approved. Office to order and install

Mr Farmer reports that cooling works on downstairs. Auto or heat sends error A1.1. Heat works upstairs, but cooling blows hot. He reports Fujitsu inverter mini split system was installed in 2020 by company that is now out of business. Reports multiple service calls since installation and Control board for downstairs outdoor unit has been replaced. Neither system is working correctly. Tech started downstairs. Found heat mode will run for about five minutes. Blower, outdoor fan and compressor are running, but discharge line is very hot. Error A1.1 is for high discharge temperature which means likely failed sensor or low charge. There are shark bite fittings instead of flare joints connecting indoor and outdoor units to lineset. Return flex duct is not sealed to return transition to air handler. Ends of the lineset insulation are not sealed against moisture infiltration to prevent corrosion. Owner of former WRIGHT brothers HVAC is Arthur Harris 252-361-4003. Tech called him and clarifi

Tech found compressor was making humming noise inside bed room unit I’d right outside bedroom door tech found pressure on heat mode 126/425 causing it to making noise louder tech adjusted airflow to help with liquid line pressure tech did find return was red from 16in flex to 14in at return on unit cfm chart suggested 14 is barley making the 1000 cfm required for 2.5 ton system 16 in would be more ideal. Customer did show up and let tech inside to hear noise noise is loudest at bedroom by unit. Tech recommends replacing reducer and going in with 16 in straight

Tech found compressor sound reverberating throughout house. Checked system operation and found unit itself working correctly. Amp draws and pressures are within specs. Put isolator pads under front coil louvre and vibration from louvre quieted slightly, but noise complaint is coming from normal compressor operation. New unit is connected with existing sheet metal duct system which is hung from floor joists with metal strap. Customer asked if a section of flex duct between unit and rest of ductwork could quiet house down. Tech got pictures and will get office input. Tech found aux heat lockout set at 35 degrees. This explains system not keeping up for customer. Set it to 50 instead, so heat strips will run when needed except when outdoor temp is 50 plus degrees. Per Monica, tech let customer know that office will send a tech out for a second opinion.

Tech arrived before customer and started with outdoor unit. Tech found 35/5 uf dual run capacitor reading 12% weak on HERM side. Tech recommends replacing capacitor. Customer reported air handler making a hum, but not running. Tech found blower wheel resting on the bottom of the blower housing and set screw not tight to the motor shaft. Tech removed four mounting bolts, but couldn’t push wheel up higher on shaft. Would need hub puller. 10uf blower capacitor is 10% weak. If hub puller gets existing wheel set correctly on existing motor, tech cannot guarantee it will work or be balanced. Tech cannot offer option using existing motor or wheel due to likely damage. Tech quoted $1791.31 including tax to replace blower motor, wheel, and dual run capacitor. Need to order ASAP. System is down. Tech recommends system replacement. Whole system is 20 years old and R22. Tech recommends replacing whole system. Customer declined replacement.

Customer has a Dakin 5 zone mini split. Wall mounted thermostat was displaying a fault for low refrigerant charge. Tech attached gauges and power cycled unit to clear fault. Tech monitored operation of unit for 30 minutes with no challenges. Informed customer that refrigerant charge would have to be removed to verify proper charge, leak search and pressure tested to locate any leaks if system is determined to be low.
